The Cooper-Hewitt Family
The Cooper-Hewitt family began when Abram Hewitt met Edward Cooper (Peter Cooper's son) at Columbia College. At first he was his tutor, and then they traveled to Europe together. Later Peter, Edward, and Abram started the Trenton Iron Works, the first of many businesses they owned together. Abram and Sarah Amelia Cooper (Peter's daughter) fell in love and were married. They had six children, many of whom share names with their ancestors.
